Bought a Dlink DNS-323 NAS Box to help my bro in law upgrade their storage capacity. Also bought a 1TB hard disk. All of this cost about RM830. Bought the items from pcdepot. The NAS box also comes with a usb print server. The size is small, about the size of a toaster.
You can read the review at SmallNetbuilder.
The NAS was easy to setup.
- Plug in the hard disk
- Plug in the network cable to the router.
- Power on.
- Use the CD to search for the nas
- Login and choose the disk and start to format.
- After the format finished, create folder, users and groups
- Plug in the Epson 1290 printer.
- Check the status, printer detected. (easy and this thing runs on linux)
Using windows machines to connect is easy, and to use the shared printer is also easy. But for MACOS to see the printer, need a few steps. Luckily we got uncle google. (hehe) I may wrote the steps needed for MACOS machines to use the shared printer.
